New Beginnings...
What a marvelous day this day is! Usually I am a bit depressed when the kids go back to school after they have been on break, but today is the first real glimpse at some sort of normalcy since Savanna had surgery in October.
All of the kids went to school today in good health! After months of struggle, I feel like the weight of the world has been lifted off of my girl and off of our family.
Savanna had her casts removed on December 2, 2013. Because of the extreme nerve sensitivity that she has due to cerebral Palsy, her feet were incredibly sensitive. The pain she experienced the first week after cast removal was gut wrenching. She could not even put socks on without crying in agony. Her healing was delayed. Her medical providers did not anticipate her to be out of her wheel chair until late January at the earliest. She was discouraged for a few days.
Her spunk and survivalist nature came back to her quickly and she rallied. Savanna set her mind on walking and pushed through the pain. Christmas Eve she surprised her grandparents when she walked into their home without crutches, a wheelchair, or any assistance. They were blown away and over the moon with happiness.
I cannot recall another Christmas where I felt Christmas so deeply in my heart. While I am sad that the season is over, I am ecstatic for all of these wonderful new beginnings!
Today was the first day that Savanna has been able to put tennis shoes on her feet! Without pain, for the first time in years, my daughter was able to walk with a spring in her step and be free from pain.
My heart is full of love, contentment, and appreciation for this blessed life. God is so GOOD!

Fabulous Skin Savers That Won't Break The Bank!
As a skincare lover (I work in the skincare industry), I'm always on the search for new products to tackle acne, dark circles, dullness, and of course fine lines and wrinkles. Here are some new gems that I have been trying. My favorite thing about all of these products probably is their very reasonable price points. These firming eye gel will help with dark circles and firm up your under our area. I don't know how I ever lived without these.
Apply at night and wake up with exfoliated and very soft skin.
This is a primer unlike any I've ever tried before. It helps with acne, reduces redness, minimizes the appearance of pores. Your skin is left with a nice matte finish, perfect for makeup application.
While I love CLARISONIC brush systems, I generally do not care for their skincare line. This product is very different then any of the others that I have tried from Clarisonic. It is paraben free and does just what it says it will do, it detoxifies the pores. I was so pleased with this mask that we will now be retailing it at the dermatology clinic.
Even though this is a cream, it is oil free. It's like taking a deep breath of oxygen, but for your skin. This blend of antioxidants will help to restore your skin.
My cuticles easily get out of control. This stuff literally erases your cuticles! This made me do the biggest happiest ever! Now my cuticles don't look like a raccoon was trying to chew them off.

BEST ever pie crust!
A delicious crust is crucial if you want to make pie. My sisters and I learned how to cook and bake at a very young age thanks to our mom and thanks to our dad's insatiable sweet tooth. He truly wanted to eat a fresh baked good every day. We had plenty of practice to perfect the flakiest and most delicious pie crust.

Autumn, the oldest of us three girls, is the finest pie maker. This is the recipe that she gave me to use and it is truly the BEST.

Pies I made this week: apple, cherry, and blueberry. I always make the crust twice as thick for blueberry pies because the berries are so heavy and dense. This does not effect the flakiness or flavor of the crust. I rely on my stoneware pie plate to bake my pies evenly, find it HERE.
This recipe is also fantastic for pot pies. I substitute butter flavored shortening when making a savory pie.2 cups all-purpose flour1 cup shortening1 teaspoon salt½ cup waterDirections:1. In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in water until mixture forms a ball. Divide dough in half, and shape into 2 balls. Wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for 4 hours or overnight.
2. Roll out dough on a floured counter. Don’t over work it. Use as directed in pie recipe.On a side note, this recipe is the best I’ve used but it does not turn out as good unless you do the refrigeration. I’ve tried it both ways numerous time and it still is ok but the refrigeration makes it nice and flaky.

Kate Spade Style On A Budget
You know that I adore mod style dresses. I also love Kate Spade and how she interprets mod into her collections, but I do not love the price point that her clothes are offered at.
Last week I found this super chic and fun dress at Target for $24.99! The cut of the dress and the fabric instantly said "Kate Spade" to me. I purchased it in ivory and in black. If it came in more colors I would have bought them also!

Anyone else constantly searching for the ultimate pair of black opaque tights? It is so hard to find the perfect pair that is truly opaque, and that offers support without digging in to your stomach.
These tights are my new fave. They don't dig in! How great is the name Commando? I thought that was a nice touch when I ordered them.
I love Spanx, but I swear those things are going to give me intestinal problems from the band cutting in to my tum. I actually threw away all of my Spanx after wearing these amaze Commandos to work this week. You cannot have any sense of poise if your tights are wonky. I also love that these are super black, the blackest black.

My New Prada Handbag

Five on Friday!
Casual Friday! I rarely work on Friday, but when I do, casual Friday always throws me for a loop. Casual and work do not go together. Today I genuinely enjoyed dressing in jeans (rare) for the Land of Vanity, so much so that I had to strike a sassy/obnoxious pose! (Let's be real. I work super part-time and it's super awesome. My gay friends call it a "hobby".)
My addiction to achieving flawless skin brought this fabulous at-home facial steamer into my life. This very inexpensive device delivers major hydration. I am obsessed with using it prior to masking. Hello spotless pores! It's like bringing a little piece of fabulous of my work home with me!
I randomly stumbled across this Zig Ziglar quote on Thursday, a day that I was feeling especially blah and unmotivated. It made me laugh and remember what an awesome motivator The Ziglar was.
Have you tried Nest Candles? They burn cleaner than any other brand I have tried. I just started burning the Moss & Mint 3-wick and it is AMAZING. Don't worry, there is no mossiness to this scent. It is fresh and uplifting.
The SUPERBOWL is this weekend! Being that I live in Washington State, I am SO PROUD of the Seattle Seahawks! With that being said, my dad lives for the Broncos. I can honestly say that I am rooting for both teams. Yes, that's possible.
